Opportunities For FREE LINKS Don’t Come Around Often

by @ 5:29 am. Filed under Interesting Sites, Web Promotion

It is not an everyday thing when a website will offer you a free link, much less two free links!  Here’s another resource to check out, it’s called TwoFreeLinks.com and you can sign up, login, and post a blogpost of your own right on their blog.  You can include two links in the post back to your site.  Just that simple, a very nice service.

by @ 1:29 am. Filed under Interesting Sites

Many companies are moving in a new and exciting direction when it comes to furthering their employees knowledge in certain areas. Where once a company might have sent their employees on an extended stay somewhere to take classes, now companies have the option of providing computer based training for their employees to learn the same material and not have to leave work or their immediate area. The use of these computer courses can often saves companies thousands of dollars.

Many options are available from actual computer training to leadership training and more. It is an exciting new world available to people from all walks of life who may not have had the opportunity to gain the knowledge necessary if they’d had to use the old fashioned conventional form of training.

New Page Rank Update

by @ 10:03 pm. Filed under Commentary

The new page rank update seems to be over, or almost over… how did your site(s) survive? There is a lot talk going around that page rank was lowered for most across the board, although many say there’s increased. Many sites seem to have made the initial jump from a page rank of zero to a level of 1, 2, or 3 fairly easily. From the talk (complaints mostly) on most of the popular discussion forums, it seems that the higher page rank sites (PR6 and above) tended to fall a point or two in terms of PR.

What is going to be the fallout of all this? Search engine traffic will differ for some and those that sell links may not be able to get nearly as much as they use to, while others are going to see the benefit of their new sites having PR in a rather short time.

Hope the PR update was kind to you.

Put Amber Alert Warning System On Your Website

by @ 6:14 am. Filed under Webmaster Tools

A short blurb about a great little script you can use for free. The people over at websiteamberalert.com have made available an Amber Alert script that when activated on your site will flash an Amber Alert warning when the situation merits.

For those that don’t know, the Amber Alert system is a way of tracking down missing children as soon as possible instead of waiting. It puts out information to the public like possible suspects, vehicle license plate and description, and more so that anyone who has seen something can help. A very nice addition to any site. We’ve installed it here as well.

Thoughts On Direct Email Marketing

by @ 11:17 pm. Filed under Web Promotion

When it comes to internet marketing, many leading marketers will tell you that it isn’t about how much traffic you get, but the key to the castle is in capturing the email addresses of your visitors. This makes sense, because if you’ve got a visitor who is interested enough to give you his email address they will be available for future repetitive marketing efforts through direct email marketing.

You won’t want to bombard them with every buying opportunity you find and you may even want to mix in the occasional free offer or purely informative messages. But, you’ve already acquired a customer and they’ve given you a direct way to contact them again for the next opportunity, don’t waste it.

But, now that you have this list of email addresses of valuable customers who are open to the idea, in fact begging you to contact them again… what do you do with it?

Do-It-Yourself Email Marketing

Constant Contact is a company that can handle everything for you. They can provide you with customizable website visitor sign-up forms, a ton of email templates for every use you’ll need, and list management (like what to do when people want to unsubscribe or if the email address is no longer good). They will also handle the delivery of the mailing, what could be better? Oh, yes and they also track everything and provide a full report of your email campaign (how many emails were opened, who clicked on which links, and more).

The worst thing is having to shell out big bucks based on someone else’s say so… I’m not asking you to do that - try Do-It-Yourself Email Marketing yourself.

They have a 60-day free trial! That’s right, not a one week free trial or a one month free trial (which is the standard and a very good way to evaluate a program), but a 60 day free trial! They’ll even provide you with more help through their newsletter and email campaign coaching tips.

Web Development And Domaining Go Hand In Hand

Web Development And Domaining Go Hand In Hand

As you explore the world of web development or domain name sales you will find a number of people who are into one of those areas but not into the other. In fact, one of the most common questions or polls in webmaster forums is something to the effect of: “do you develop domain names or sell them?”. What these people fail to realize is that web development and domaining are two sides of the same coin.

Most web developers are creative people who also have an eye for business. They are constantly thinking of new ideas and new websites they can create and/or market. Whether they are eating a bowl of cereal, going for a drive, or laying down trying to sleep; part of their brain is thinking of either the next great website or how to improve one of the sites they already have developed. This constant flow of creative thought also leads to many ideas that never get put into action. Some of these ideas even get so far as the domain name research or purchasing phase.

Domainers, by their very nature, are usually people with an affinity towards research. Finding a niche to exploit and then attempting to put words and letters in any order in search for an available domain name that would work for that niche. Also sometimes by chance when researching one domain name, a domainer may find two or more alternatives that they like as well. With the advent of easy-to-use technology like blogs and templates, it does not take too much effort to put up at the very least a mini website on almost any niche interest.

When people pigeonhole themselves into just being a domainer or just being a web developer, they are a lot of times leaving money on the table. It would not take that much experience for the domainer to take some of these extra unsold domain names and make a website and then market that website, even to a limited degree. Likewise, it wouldn’t take too much effort at all for a web developer to go ahead and buy some of the available domain names they find and will not use and then attempt to sell them to others. One great benefit of using this practice is that it is possible to take the profits of the side businesses to enhance the main business. Extra domain sales dollars can be put into purchasing web development tools. Money made from pay-per-click or affiliate services can be put into buying more domain names. Combining these two money making activities is a natural and complimentary fit.

Make Your Domain Name Memorable & Noticeable

by @ 11:24 pm. Filed under Domain Name Tips

If the domain name you’re developing is not the .com, but the .net, .org, .info, or any other extension, one way of making it memorable is by capitalizing it.  Example.net or Example.NET?  Example.info or Example.INFO?  Currently, most people are used to going to the .com version of a domain name; capitalizing the extension when using it in text draws attention to the portion of your domain name that is most likely to be confused or forgotten.

Another way of making your domain memorable is on how you present it in text form.  If you have a short name, say five characters or less, it may be worth it to spell it out in all-caps.  If your domain name is two words in length, capitalize each word so it reads better.  What is easier to read, myexample.com or MyExample.com?

Doing even small things to make your domain more memorable can be of great help later on when you’re promoting your site even more.  The truth is, what we are talking about here is purposefully drawing attention to a negative aspect of your domain name (the non .com extension) with the motivation that by doing so people will remember it better.
